The Brief
Create an Instagram post that represents the ideals of MacuHealth and is informative to their audience.
Initial Research
MacuHealth is a business that specializes in treating Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). The first step of my design process was to read up on AMD and the company's products. After a bit of research on WebMD, the National Eye Institute, and MacuHealth's personal website, I was able to define my target audience and their primary concerns.
AMD primarily affects people over the age of 55, people who smoke, have high cholesterol or high blood pressure. This can result in gradual loss of vision and lower quality of life. So for my design work to be effective, it had to be informational and highly legible, even for people with some vision loss.
I also conducted some light visual research by looking at their current website and Instagram feed to make sure my post aligned with their current branding.

Initial Designs
I wanted the Instagram post to be interactive, so I designed three pages to be a carousel. The goal of this post was to inform people about the causes of AMD as well as how to prevent it. After speaking with another designer, they felt that it was too much text and that the third photo looked dated. I agreed, so I kept looking and found a more modern one, and decided to add visual icons to break up the large amounts of text.
I also felt it was necessary to promote the company's product line, so I added another page to the carousel that used text taken from their website's supplement page.
Final Designs
The final designs that I sent to MacuHealth included simplified body copy, visual icons depicting diet and lifestyle changes, a new stock photo with more legible text, and a final Call to Action page that encourages people to try their supplement line.  This carousel post would mesh well with their other Instagram posts, inform their audience about Age-Related Macular Degeneration, and urge people to take control of their health.
