The Brief
Create a logo for a local construction company that incorporated the background of the company owner, and clearly showed the industry they worked in.
This logo would be displayed on their social media pages, business and contract documents, and additionally be displayed on the sides of their company truck(s), so it was also to be used as an advertising tool when driving to and from jobs.
The Sketch
The client had a very specific idea in mind with regards to the design, and sent me a handful of sketches they had drawn. I actually quite liked the design, and used it as a basis for the final logo. It depicts my client's signature cowboy hat with a hammer and trowel, tools of the concrete trade, surrounded by stars. I opted to simplify it further by removing the stars and the border encircling the design.

Color Palette and Type Options

Color palette options sent to the client. They ended up going with the first option

The final logo used the second-to-last option shown (Bourbon Regular from Adobe Fonts)

Above you see the color palette options I sent the client. The one they selected was meant to remind people of leather and turquoise, since this client is very connected to their Mexican heritage and is known for wearing cowboy hats and steel-toed cowboy boots to the construction site. Once the colors were selected, I began my work in Illustrator.

Final Thoughts
This logo project was a quick-paced one, as I did not offer any other services along with it, but it was an enjoyable exercise and benefitted a close friend who is getting their own company off the ground. I designed it with future expansion in mind, including the aforementioned truck decals and website when they are ready to implement those features as a growing company. I hope that it is both an attractive and effective tool that they continue to use for years to come.
